Stirling Assessments and CPPD Day

Assessments and CPPD Day at Sterling

16th - 18th November 2012

It was in a field; 1314; the mist was just clearing showing Stirling Castle in the background, it all started to come together. Yep, about 13:15pm on Friday the 16th November Kevin Dawson Passed his GAIC S/H Update.  At least this was one English man who had found success on the Fields of Bannockburn. The thing to remember though is that we allowed it.

Kevin was the first of 5 assessments we were carrying out at Stirling and he passed with flying colours, due to his hard work and practice.

Craig Brown was next up and he raised the standards.

He had put a lot of work into his Casting and Teaching skills and his presentation was faultless and apparently blew the assessors away with his performance.

Callum Murray also took the S/H GAIC and presented to the Examiners a polished and professional presentation due to the amount of work that he had put in, when I know for a fact he had been run of his feet with his business.

Peter McCallum Presented himself for a S/H GAIC update but it quickly became apparent that it was more like an APGAI assessment; a faultless performance. We had a couple of guys just missing the standard but I am sure they will return another day and nail it.

Sunday morning with a few thick heads was the Casting games. Scott Loudon (sadist) had devised a set of casting scenarios - very difficult scenarios using hoops, poles plastic and all manner of other stuff. So the sixteen of us, after drawing lots, proceeded to try and tame the course. To be honest I would have rather defended Stirling Castle single-handed, but I did try.

Casting Games Contestants
Roger miles said to me during the games "Have a look at them, they are casting, learning, having a banter but above all they are all smiling". He was right. It was a roaring success with Scott winning the £40 raised by selling two Jackets donated by Roger Miles.

Leslie Holmes was Lead Assessor and with his usual professional approach put everybody at ease - a very valuable asset to GAIA. It was a team effort though and without Roger, Pat, John, Alberto and Young John Boon it would have been impossible. Also I would like to thank all the members and guests who turned up, as usual, you made it all worthwhile.

Home time and as we all went our separate ways with some of my friends heading back to England , probably just as they were passing Dunbar Castle, my mind wandered back to Robert The Bruce , Sir Philip Mowbray and another success at Bannockburn.

Wendy Gibson - First Lady Fly Dressing Assessor
Alun Rees also successfully joined the ranks of qualified Assessors prior to this meeting.

I have to say that our increasing success rate in assessments is due to the very professional team of Mentors we have and as ever, strongly recommend that potential candidates acquire their services - you can't do it alone !

An excellent weekend and particular thanks to my hard working Assessor team, some of whom spent all day assessing.
